A therapist with extensive experience treating grief, the tables were suddenly turned on Leslie in 2004 with the violent death of her mother, casting her on a humbling and at times dark journey. In THE WISDOM OF GRIEF, she lays out the specific practices that helped her open to a larger view, where she could see both the beauty and the terror of this event and of life itself, amidst an ever expanding background of profound peace, made available during the exclusive window opened by grief.
THE WISDOM OF GRIEF is a first hand account of complex grief written from the perspective of a professional in the field, combining personal journey with professional perspective, and leading us to the spiritual transformation that takes place because of it. Particular mindfulness practices are applied to each stage of grief in order to help transform this universal human experience from one solely of misery to one of grace and wisdom. Specific contemplations are shared as antidotes to common grieving stumbling blocks such as anger; guilt; isolation; resistance; and depression, assisting us all to move through this formidable process more fluidly, thereby expanding our capacity for empathy, compassion, forgiveness, and mercy in our lives and in the world.
